Domestic Art

Domestic Art

I want to live in a house with art on the walls. I want my children to grow up with art around them. I want my family to experience an art that is domestic, tangible, and relatable.

Often art, or what is passed off as art, is esoteric, difficult, or ugly. When we see good art, it is artwork of the masters of bygone eras, that, while beautiful, can be discouraging and distant. It can feel too perfect to be personal, or of topics that are not common today and difficult to understand.

I want an art that is beautiful, uplifting, that can be challenging at times while being encouraging, simple yet meaningful, something that draws you into participation.

My artwork is of smaller and intimate things. Usually one subject, not large scenes or massive murals. My works are meant to be hung in a home.

Subjects & Faith

Portraits

When I began to feel compelled to create art I had to decide what I would represent, what my subjects would be. I want to give glory to God. I want to create something good. I went to the scriptures and my faith to help me.

"And God created man in His own image." Genesis 1:27

The highest subject would be the one God made in His own image. So, I decided to work towards representing man.

I then thought of who I should use as a subject. Who would reflect that truth more fully? Who would I want my children to see on the wall?

I  focus mainly on saints. I want to be like them. I want my children to be like them. I want them to see real faces. Saints are people just like us who choose to represent God more fully. I want to see how different the saints can be from each other.

Subjects & Faith

God's Beautiful Creation

I also create works of birds, flowers, and animals. I want God's beautiful creations to surround my family.

Style

Style, Originals

I work in an impressionistic, loose, maybe sometimes sketchy style in most of my work. I enjoy the vibrancy and expressive strokes.

Originals

Original works give you something that prints cannot. That is why museums are still worth attending.

My purpose is to bring art into homes. I want to provide originals for people to have in their homes.

Prints

I sell prints of my works as well. Buying originals can become very expensive to fill a house or impractical in situations where they might get damaged. Prints are a great way to bring good artwork into your home. My prints as usually full sized and high quality to allow the brushstrokes or marks to match the original.
